• Grey, silvery and white spots on projecter images are due to the degradation of the DMD chips . These dots or spots could be few and localized to a corner of the screen or it could be all over the screen.

DLP chips are irreparable, but they can be replaced. After the replacement of the chip, if the projector is in use in a heat and dust free environment, the projector will be good for another 4 to 6 years.

Projector Colour wheels are one of the most vulnerable component in a DLP projector. A number of things can happen to the colour wheel. Most especially noise and wobbling as a result of dust and soot on the wheel as they tend to get clogged up with dust and soot when in use in a dusty and smokey environment such as bars and restaurants. Excessive dust and soot on the wheel often result in the breakage of the segments.

What to do to keep your projectors at peak performance;

• Ensure that air filters are cleaned and never operate your projector without the filters installed.

• If in use in a bars, basement cinemas, or any humid environment, ensure that an air extractor and purifier is installed in the place.

• For ceiling mounted projectors, ensure that there is sufficient clearance around the air intake fans.

• Keep a tab on the lamp hours. If you keep using the projector beyond the recommended lamp hour, it can lead to error that may require extensive work to get the projector to boot after shutting down due to spent lamp. It may also cause the lamp to explode.
